The Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) 2025 Secretariat has officially opened nominations for the AHAIC 2025 Women in Global Health Awards.
These awards aim to recognize outstanding African women and male allies who are driving transformative change in the health sector.
Ms. Maureen Cherongis, head of media at Amref Health Africa – the largest health development non-governmental organisation based in Africa – made this announcement in a statement to journalists over the weekend.
According to Science Nigeria, the awards are hosted by Amref Health Africa in partnership with Africa CDC, WHO AFRO and the Ministry of Health of Rwanda.
AHAIC 2025 marks a decade of Africa-led thought leadership in health. The conference will gather leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss urgent health issues, showcase cutting-edge technologies and foster collaborations to build resilient health systems for a healthier and more sustainable Africa.
Cherongis stated that the awards ceremony will take place on March 5, 2025, during the AHAIC in Kigali, Rwanda, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
“Five exceptional individuals will be honored for their contributions in several critical areas: innovation, climate action, youth empowerment, community leadership and economic transformation. These categories reflect the significant impacts necessary for reshaping Africa’s health landscape,” she said.
Important nomination details: the deadline for submissions is February 14, 2025. “Please submit nominations for the AHAIC 2025 Awards,” she added.
The awards celebrate not only the achievements of women but also the contributions of male allies who support gender equity in global health. Cherongis emphasised that by highlighting these efforts, AHAIC seeks to inspire future leaders dedicated to improving health systems and outcomes across the continent.
As Africa continues to tackle evolving health challenges, the AHAIC 2025 Women in Global Health Awards will serve as a platform to honour changemakers whose work is driving significant progress in the region’s health sector.
