The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development honoured 24 retiring officers, ranging from levels 03 to 16, in a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Education’s conference room.

The event was attended by the ministry’s serving directors, staff and well-wishers.

Permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole praised the retirees for their significant contributions to the aviation sector and, by extension, to Nigeria’s development. He described civil servants as “nation builders” and encouraged the retirees to continue contributing to the nation’s growth.

Meribole emphasised that the event was part of ongoing reforms in the Federal Civil Service, thanking the Head of Civil Service for championing these efforts. He also advised the retirees to prioritise their health, engage in regular physical exercise and practice financial prudence as they transition into retirement.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Hon. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, and the ministry, Meribole wished the retirees a fulfilling new chapter in their lives.

Director of human resource management, Mr. Mohammed Shehu described the ceremony as a special occasion dedicated to honouring officers who have diligently served the country. He highlighted that life after civil service offers many opportunities, urging the retirees to make the most of the skills they acquired during their pre-retirement training.

Chairman of the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC) for the ministry, Comrade Hector Nnadi thanked the minister and permanent secretary for recognising the contributions of these senior citizens. He reminded the retirees that “everything that has a beginning has an end” and encouraged them to embrace the challenges that lie ahead.

A deputy director speaking on behalf of the retirees, Engr. Agbapu Patrick expressed appreciation to the permanent secretary for the recognition, saying, “With this kind of event, you have brought hope and assurance to us.”

In her closing remarks, deputy director of staff welfare and training, Mrs. Agu Jachima described the retirees as “men and women of honor” deserving of the best and encouraged them to approach retirement with joy.
