
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo on Tuesday led top directors of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to welcome Nigeria’s victorious women’s football team, the Super Falcons, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Super Falcons returned from Morocco after clinching their 10th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, reinforcing Nigeria’s unrivalled status in African women’s football.
Speaking at the airport’s arrival hall, Keyamo praised the team’s resilience, unity and unwavering patriotism, describing the victory as “a triumph for the girl-child, a national pride and a symbol of Nigeria’s unbreakable spirit.” The players were greeted with fanfare, traditional music, souvenirs and widespread admiration from jubilant Nigerians.
Following their reception, the champions were led in a motorcade to the Presidential Villa, where President Bola Tinubu hosted them in recognition of their achievement.
In a show of appreciation and national pride, the President conferred the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each player. The team also received $1 million in cash and keys to brand-new three-bedroom apartments at the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja.
Tinubu commended the Falcons for bringing glory to the country and reiterated his administration’s dedication to promoting gender equality in sports, youth development and rewarding excellence.
Keyamo pledged continued support from the aviation sector for Nigeria’s sportsmen and women, assuring smoother travel logistics for national teams in future international competitions.
The Super Falcons’ WAFCON triumph adds a golden chapter to Nigeria’s sporting legacy and continues to inspire young girls across Africa to dream big and aim high.
