In a bid to fulfill the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has inaugurated a Ministerial Delivery Committee to oversee the implementation of its ministerial mandate.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Abuja, marking a significant step in ensuring the ministry and its agencies align with the government’s objectives.

In his opening remarks, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole emphasised that the ministerial mandate is a crucial component of the government’s policy framework. It is designed to showcase the performance of all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) about the eight priority areas of the Tinubu administration. The priority areas include: food security, economic growth and job creation, ending poverty, access to capital, inclusivity (drawing on all skills base), security, fairness and rule of law and fighting corruption.

Meribole reiterated that these priorities were crafted to contribute towards achieving good governance, improving citizens’ quality of life and setting Nigeria on the path to prosperity. He highlighted that the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), under the direct supervision of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, is responsible for tracking the implementation of these priorities.

According to Meribole, the committee is expected to work with a clear focus, guided by the following terms of reference: meeting monthly to review progress on identified key tasks, ensuring effective and prompt reporting to the CDCU, collaborating with relevant Directorates to generate and validate data, as well as providing information to help achieve the committee’s objectives.

He urged members of the committee to approach their responsibilities with diligence, integrity and a commitment to excellence, noting that while the challenges may be significant, they can be transformed into opportunities for growth and development. Meribole further stated that the success of the committee will not only benefit the aviation sector but will also have a positive impact on the broader economy, contributing to the nation’s prosperity and global standing.

Director of planning, research and statistics (PRS) in the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawan echoed similar sentiments in his welcome address. He thanked the participants for their commitment to ensuring the success of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda. Lawan reminded committee members that their assignment is a call to serve and urged them to carry out their duties with dedication.

He added that making the ministry a leader among MDAs is the primary goal of the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN. Lawan stressed that the committee must do everything within its reach to ensure performance and success in implementing the presidential priorities.

In a goodwill message, the director-general of the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMET), Prof. Charles Anosike expressed appreciation to Kayamo for his efforts on the ministerial deliverables. He affirmed his agency’s readiness to support the implementation of the ministerial mandate, particularly in alignment with the five-point agenda of the minister.

Similarly, managing director of the Federal Airport Authority (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku encouraged committee members to ensure they meet the expectations, especially in generating accurate data for the ministry’s performance. She emphasised the importance of not failing the President in delivering on the task ahead.

Special adviser to the president on policy and coordination and head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), Hadiza Bala Usman was represented by Dr. Hendricks Odigie. Usman commended the ministry for being one of the first ministries to align with the president’s vision. She urged the ministry and its agencies to continue providing the necessary tools and support to achieve their mandate.

The inauguration of the ministerial delivery committee marks a significant step in ensuring that the aviation sector contributes to the overall success of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, with a clear focus on improving service delivery and meeting the expectations of the Nigerian people.
