The APC Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3), has commended the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal and his Minister of State, Dr. Iziaq Salako as standout members of the current Federal Executive Council.
In a press release on Monday, the national coordinator, Amechi Chuks Oyema, highlighted that the two ministers have actively supported the administration’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, particularly in enhancing the environment sector.
Celebrating President Bola Tinubu’s first anniversary, the group emphasised the ministers’ exceptional performance in addressing climate change issues.
Lawal has intensified the Ogoni cleanup initiative, earning accolades from affected communities. Furthermore, efforts such as bolstering National Park Guards to combat banditry and safeguard against poaching and illegal logging have been recognised.
Other notable accomplishments include the launch of the National Clean Cooking Policy to advocate for sustainable cooking practices, distribution of 45 million tree seedlings for afforestation programmes nationwide, and collaborations with the Ministry of Agriculture to promote climate-smart agriculture for food security.
The initiation of the 50×2030 Initiative to enhance agriculture data systems in 50 countries by 2030, alongside a contract signing for the Agro-climatic Resilience Project spanning 350,000 hectares, were also lauded.
The Federal Ministry of Environment’s active participation in international engagements and agreements towards environmental improvement was acknowledged, particularly citing the successful outing at COP28 under Lawal’s leadership.
The APC G3 recognised the ministry’s significant achievements and heralded Balarabe Lawal and his team as exemplary contributors to the administration.
The Federal Ministry of Environment’s diligent implementation of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda in the environmental realm was commended by APC G3.
