The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has congratulated the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, on his appointment as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Banjul Accord Group (BAG), a coalition of seven West African countries committed to advancing civil aviation in the region.

This notable appointment highlights the minister’s outstanding leadership, bold reforms and unwavering dedication to repositioning Nigeria’s aviation sector as a model of excellence in Africa. It also reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in shaping the trajectory of aviation development both on the continent and globally.

Since taking office, Keyamo has spearheaded transformative reforms that have re-energised the aviation industry. He has advocated for a revised regulatory framework covering leased aircraft insurance and secured Nigeria’s active involvement with the global Aviation Working Group. These actions have boosted investor confidence, improved access to aircraft financing and enhanced the business climate for local operators.

His tenure has witnessed major milestones, such as Air Peace’s inaugural Lagos-to-London flight and Nigeria’s prominent role at the prestigious Aviation Finance Conference in Dublin. These achievements have elevated Nigeria’s visibility on the international aviation stage.

Keyamo’s focus on safety, operational efficiency and sustainable growth is evident in his drive for infrastructure investment and his successful push for the full implementation of the Cape Town Convention. These moves have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s global aviation standing.

In marking this achievement, AON also expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for his strategic leadership and for appointing capable individuals to lead critical sectors. The elevation of Keyamo, the group said, reinforces the impact of entrusting leadership to competent hands. Under the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, Nigeria’s aviation industry is enjoying a period of policy stability, institutional reform and international relevance unmatched in over 20 years.

AON is confident that Keyamo will bring the same vision, excellence and dedication to his new role, fostering regional collaboration and driving sustainable aviation development across West Africa.
