The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is scheduled to inspect the facilities at the regional training centre (RTC) of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in Oshodi-Lagos.
This inspection is in response to NiMet’s application for the accreditation of its National Diploma courses offered at the Centre.
According to the director-general of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike the agency is responsible for providing weather information and training manpower in the fields of meteorology and climate sciences.
The World Meteorological Organisation Regional Training Centre (WMO RTC) in Oshodi, Lagos, established in 1957, has been offering only certificate courses due to the lack of a national monitoring and accrediting body. To address this limitation, NiMet has approached the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to express interest in offering diploma programmes – ND Meteorology and ND Climate Change Science. NBTE has approved an advisory/resources inspection visit to the RTC Oshodi as a preliminary step for the proposed ND programmes at the RTC.
