Fifty adolescents in Gwarimpa District, Abuja, have benefited from a partnership between Pathfinder International and JAM Intervention for Vulnerable Children and Climate Change Initiative, aimed at equipping vulnerable children with basic entrepreneurial skills.

As part of its ongoing empowerment sessions, Pathfinder International conducted a training themed “Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship,” where beneficiaries received both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. A key highlight of the session was a hands-on soap-making training facilitated by the JAM Initiative team.

Pathfinder peer educator, Farida Ghazali led an inspiring session on financial literacy. She emphasised the importance of financial freedom and the habit of saving from an early age. Encouraging the adolescents to dream big, she said, “Children should believe in their abilities and start building their paths to success; becoming a successful entrepreneur has no age barrier.”

Project coordinator of the JAM Initiative, Ramlah Ibrahim said the collaboration aligns with the organisation’s commitment to nurturing children with the skills and confidence they need for a better future.

“Our focus is on education, nutrition, and healthcare for vulnerable children. This kind of skill acquisition is vital; it gives adolescents the means to stay in school by helping them meet basic needs like school supplies, beyond tuition fees,” she explained.

She added that the empowerment sessions would continue throughout the month, with shoemaking training scheduled for later. Ibrahim commended Pathfinder International for championing early-life empowerment, stressing that such interventions can significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children.

In a statement, JAM Initiative’s media coordinator, Martha Yusuf Shibayan said the children were enthusiastic, arriving early and participating actively. She expressed gratitude to Pathfinder International for its consistent support.

The training took place at LEA Primary School 1, Gwarimpa, Abuja.
